What we do
Three core assessments, a management system build, an outsourced safety function and training. Every assessment ends in a written report with a prioritised action plan. Findings are ranked, owners named and timescales set.
You are the responsible person under the Fire Safety Order 2005 and need an assessment that survives an inspection, an insurer or a licensing review.
Fire risk assessmentYou hold flammable liquids, gases or combustible dust and nobody has classified the zones or audited the equipment inside them.
DSEAR risk assessmentYou run machinery, powered tools or industrial equipment and need guarding, controls and maintenance assessed against PUWER 1998.
PUWER risk assessmentYou control premises with hot and cold water systems, a cooling tower or any outlet that creates a spray, and ACOP L8 puts the duty on whoever controls them.
Legionella risk assessmentYou store or use substances hazardous to health and the file no longer matches what is on the shelves, because a product was swapped or a safety data sheet was reissued.
COSHH assessmentInformal arrangements have stopped being enough, or a client contract now wants ISO 45001 evidence and you have nothing structured to show them.
Safety management systemsYou have no in-house safety resource and need a competent person, a policy that works and someone who picks up the phone when a client audit lands.
Retained H&S supportYour team needs certificating. Online compliance courses, self-paced, with tracking and reporting, including IOSH Managing Safely delivered in partnership with VideoTile Learning.

The same sequence whichever assessment you book. Management system work starts the same way, then runs to an agreed programme rather than a single visit.
Twenty minutes on the phone to scope the site, the substances and the equipment involved.
Confirmed in writing, with the turnaround date, before anyone comes to site.
Half a day to two days, depending on the size of the site and the number of processes.
We walk you through the findings and what to tackle first, in what order, by when.
Scope, fixed price and turnaround date are agreed in writing after the Greenlight Call and before anyone comes to site. No hourly billing, no open-ended day rate, no extras added afterwards.
How the work is delivered
Assessments are carried out by professionally qualified assessors working to a single documented method, with scoping and technical sign-off held centrally. You get the same standard whoever attends.
Every assessment follows the same procedure, written to the recognised standard for that discipline. The standards are listed below.
Every report is reviewed and signed off by a Chartered practitioner before it reaches you.
Our own health and safety management is independently audited by Alcumus.
Professional indemnity and public liability cover in place for every engagement.

Straight answers
A health and safety consultant assesses the risks in your workplace, tells you what the law requires you to do about them, and gives you a written plan to close the gap. In practice that means a site visit, a documented assessment against the relevant regulation, and a prioritised action list you can hand to a maintenance team or a board. York Green also acts as the named competent person for businesses with no in-house safety resource.
Yes, if you are the responsible person for any non-domestic premises in England or Wales. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a fire risk assessment, and since October 2023 it must be recorded in writing regardless of how many people you employ. There is no exemption for small businesses.
A DSEAR assessment identifies every dangerous substance on your site, classifies the hazardous zones around them and checks that the installed equipment is suitable for the zone it sits in. It applies wherever flammable liquids, gases, vapours, combustible dusts or oxidising substances are present. That includes a great many sites that do not think of themselves as chemical plants, such as bakeries, joinery shops, fuel stores and food production lines.
Price depends on the size of the site and the number of processes, so we quote a fixed price after the Greenlight Call rather than publishing a single figure. What is fixed is the method: you get the scope, the price and the turnaround date in writing before anyone comes to site, and no hourly billing afterwards.
Consultants are based in Cheshire and the West Midlands, and most of our work sits in the corridor between them: Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, the North West and Merseyside, Shropshire and the Midlands, and across into Yorkshire. Beyond that corridor we work nationwide, and have delivered assessments as far as London, Lincoln and the South Coast. Wherever the site is, the price you are quoted after the Greenlight Call is the price.
Yes. Regulation 7 of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 requires you to appoint one or more competent persons. Under a retained arrangement York Green fills that role, covering policy, risk assessments, inspections and a named contact for client audits and insurer questions.
Next step
Five boxes, about a minute. Every enquiry is read by a consultant rather than a call centre, and we come back to you within one working day with a scope and a fixed price. If the honest answer is that you do not need the assessment you are asking about, we will tell you that instead of quoting for one.
